Once I join Debt Line will everyone stop chasing me for money?
Answered by Johanna Toomer last updated 6 months ago.
By joining Debt Line you're protecting yourself against certain hassle from your creditors due to official guidelines from the Office of Fair Trading Debt Collection Guidance July 2003 (updated October 2011).
If you are making regular payments and have been on board with Debt Line for more than 3 months, you shouldn't still be chased for payment by the people you owe.
There are certain letters that your creditors are able to send to you even though you're a Debt Line customer. This is because they are legally required to send them to you under the Credit Consumer Act of 1974. These include:
• Statements
• Arrears notices/statements
• Default notices & final demands
• Changes to your debt e.g. if your debt is going to be passed to a 3rd party
Any of the above letters are not something that we can class as hassle since your creditors are obliged to send these to you.
Your team of account managers are here to help you through the entire process of making a complaint so please do get in contact if you're being hassled.
Don't forget that if you are not keeping up with your payments or making them late, then the people you owe are within their rights to contact you and we wouldn't be able to help you complain under these circumstances.

Hi Viv,
From time to time the people you owe money to may offer you a discount on your balance if you pay a lump sum. As long as they aren't putting you under pressure to pay this amount, they aren't hassling you.
If you think you may be able to settle one or more of your debts please see the answer to the question "If I come into some money, can I pay a lump sum?".
